Skiing in the Mont Blanc group : Ski the Valley Blanche from the top of Aiguille du Midi cable car (12,460 feet asl) down to Chamonix (3,445 feet asl), one of the most scenic and most famous ski descents in the world. Off-piste in Chamonix, skiing the Vallée Blanche (White Valley) with a Chamonix Mountain Guide on a week end : the Vallée Blanche is the highest and most famous off-piste route on glaciers of Europe, starting on top of Aiguille du Midi cable car (12,460 feet asl), and finishing in Chamonix (elevation 3,445 feet). We chose to organize this Vallée Blanche week-end as follows : - one complete day to discover the off-piste routes of Saint-Gervais, Megève and Les Contamines - one complete day on Vallée Blanche, taking our time to appreciate the magnificent wiews on the Mont-Blanc most famous peaks and glaciers This programme is also opened to snow-boarders having a very good level in off-piste, and used to go up on ski-lifts. We also run descents of Vallée Blanche for private groups or individuals who wish to make a ski or snowboard descent on this wonderful glacier off-piste route.
- Saturday : For all skiers of the group, meeting on Saturday morning at 08h00 am, by TWINNER Sports Shop, 168 rue du Mont-Blanc, at Saint-Gervais. TEL : (+33) 4 50 47 75 97. Off-piste skiing through Saint Gervais - Megève - Les Contamines forests and mountain pastures You will practise the skiing techniques used in off-piste, and learn how to use a Transceiver. Lunch by a restaurant close to the ski runs. Night by your lodge or hôtel. - Sunday : early in the morning, the cable car lifts us up to the Aiguille du Midi (12,460 feet asl). We walk down the North ridge of the Aiguille du Midi, and then ski down on the Vallée Blanche glaciers. Pic-nic not far from the Requin hut, 8,250 feet asl. Afterwards, we ski down on the "Mer de Glace". The descent will finish on a easy and snowy forest road, right down to Chamonix (3,440 feet asl). By the end of the season, if there was poor snow on this forest road, we would go down to Chamonix by the Montenvers mountain train (no extra to be paid by the participants). Arrival in Chamonix in the middle of the afternoon.

Vallée Blanche week-end, your equipment During this week-end, Le Pays d'En Haut will loan you freely a Avalanche transceiver, a probe, a shovel and a mountaineering sit-harness. The minimum capacity of your backpack must be 40 liters, to stock in it the probe and the shovel. For all skiers of the group, meeting on Saturday morning at 08h00 am, by TWINNER Sports Shop, 168 rue du Mont-Blanc, at Saint-Gervais. TEL : (+33) 4 50 47 75 97. - Do not forget to bring along your skis, poles, ski boots, as, if we ski Vallée Blanche on Saturday, we will have no time to hire skis, poles, ski boots on Saturday morning. If you arrive in Saint-Gervais on Friday afternoon, you will have time to hire skis, poles, ski boots : TWINNER Sports Shop, in Saint-Gervais, is our partner shop for hiring your ski equipment. You can contact TWINNER Sports Shop in Saint-Gervais (not in "the Bettex" !), at least 15 days before your ski programme, to book your skis, poles, boots. Caution: please, respect exactly this list of equipment : there are significant risks of frosts due to unsufficient equipements above the height of 10,000 feet. In winter, on the Aiguille du Midi North ridge, if the wind is blowing, the temperature may drop to - 15 Fahrenheit degrees. ____________ YOUR CLOTHES: * FOR YOUR HEAD : - a helmet - a warm headband - a pair of top-quality ski glasses - a ski mask (to be used in case of bad weather or fog) - sun cream, lipstick * FOR YOUR UPPER BODY : - warm underclothing (wool, or light polar fur) - a windproof ski jacket or a windproof ski suit * FOR YOUR LEGS : - warm sports skin-tights - windproof and waterproof Goretex trousers, or windproof and waterproof skiing trousers, or a top-quality ski suit * FOR YOUR FEET : - two pairs of woollen socks, designed for skiers * FOR YOUR HANDS : - a pair of top-quality skiing gloves, waterproof and windproof, designed to endure a temperature of - 10 Fahrenheit degrees - and a pair of silk undergloves (or top-quality polar fur undergloves) _____________ YOUR SKI BACK PACK: it will be used to carry your Thermos flask, energy-giving bars, your camera, your sunday picnic, and some light extra safety equipment supplied by your guide. You are competent on-piste, capable of skiing parallel at a steady pace on all red runs whatever the conditions and on easy black runs You have soon tasted off-piste skiing. You practise twice a week running, biking or swimming. You are not an athlete, but you are fit.
